Kimchi Fries

My girlfriend Abby and I have been wanting to try these for a while now and since I’m on mid-winter break, I thought I’d give it a try! They are super satisfying and way better for you than chili cheese fries, that for sure!  Fast Food French Fries in the air fryer is a game changer!

INGREDIENTS

Kimchi Fries

1 package frozen Ore-Ida Fast Food french fries
1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
4 Tablespoons butter
3 yellow onions, thinly sliced
1 cup kimchi, roughly chopped
1 Tablespoon gochujang sauce
½ cup spicy mayo (PF Chang’s or Hellman’s)
Scallions, white and green parts, thinly sliced, for garnish
Cilantro, chopped, for garnish
Sesame seeds, optional, for garnish

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the onions and let them cook for 20–30 minutes, stirring only once in a while, until they’re soft and just starting to turn golden brown. Add the kimchi and cook for another 4–5 minutes. Stir in the gochujang sauce, remove from heat, and set aside.

  • Air fry the frozen fries at 400 degrees for 11 minutes. Shake the basket, then cook another 3–5 minutes. Sprinkle with salt as needed. Once the fries are done, place them on an oven-safe plate or pan and top with cheese. Pop them in the oven for 2–3 minutes until the cheese is melted, then set aside.

  • Once the fries are done baking and the cheese is melted, transfer to a large serving tray if needed. Top with the caramelized onion and kimchi mixture, drizzle with spicy mayo, sprinkle with scallions and cilantro for garnish, and finish it off with sesame seeds.
